Grant Description
Grants to Montana organizations and agencies for projects that improve road safety and reduce traffic accidents. Funding is intended to support equipment purchases for law enforcement agencies, increased overtime patrols, and educational programming for state residents. The purpose of funding is to reduce deaths, injuries, and property losses resulting from traffic crashes.


Additional Eligibility Criteria
Grants are made to organizations, including law enforcement agencies, in Montana.

Pre-Application Information
- Application submission deadline for FFY 2025 funding: March 1, 2024
- Application review and assessment. Funding and project recommendations made to the Governor’s Representative (GR) for Highway Traffic Safety: March 1 – April 30, 2024
- Preliminary contract negotiations: April 30 - May 29, 2024
- Deadline for Annual Grant Application submission to NHTSA: August 1, 2024
- Deadline for NHTSA to notify state whether or not FFY 2025 Annual Grant Application is approved: October 1, 2024
- Notification to applicants regarding funding approval or denial: August/September 2024
- All contracts must be executed between Grantees and MDT: October 1, 2024
