Grant Description
Grants of up to $4,000 to Montana nonprofit organizations, special districts, schools, individuals, community councils, and citizen groups for projects that impact rural communities in eligible regions. Funding is intended to enhance the quality of life for local residents. Projects must be located in Missoula County, outside of the City of Missoula limits.

Examples of eligible costs include, but are not limited to, the purchase of equipment, materials and supplies, advertising/marketing, or professional services that benefit the local community in which the project will take place.

Examples of professional services include: advertising, printing, and mailing; construction; specialized workshops, classes, lessons; etc. Contact the grant administrator to discuss specific professional service project costs.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Eligible entities are 501(c)3 not-for-profit organizations, citizen groups, community councils,
individuals, schools, and special districts.

Projects submitted by individuals or private businesses need to provide a direct public benefit

Ineligible
Operation expenses (salaries, rent, utilities, etc.) are not eligible.

Unallowed project costs:
- The applicant cannot be the direct beneficiary of grant funds.
- General operations such as staff salaries, administrative expenses, rents, utilities, or routine maintenance costs.
- Projects by private businesses that benefit only that business’s clientele.
- Sponsorships, including auctions, dinners, tickets, or fundraising.
- Political action or legislative advocacy.
- Expenses solely for religious purposes.

Pre-Application Information
Timeline:
- Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) release date: January 2, 2024
- Application deadline: 5 p.m. February 29, 2024
- Review committee reads, evaluates, and scores applications, leading to preliminary grant funding recommendations to Board of County Commissioners: March 2024
- County staff notifies applicants of tentative Impact Grant award amounts and contracting begins. Applicants may be requested to provide additional information: Early April 2024
- Contracts are finalized and approved: End of April 2024
- Projects can begin: May 2024

Payment(s) will be made on a reimbursement basis. Reimbursement requests will be submitted to the grants administrator. Contact the grants administrator if receiving funds as a reimbursement is a barrier to applying.

Estimated Size of Grant
Grant awards range from a minimum of $501 to a maximum of $4,000.

Term of Contract
The Impact Grant is designed to support community projects that can be completed by Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024.
