Grant Description
Grants to Montana organizations, for-profit businesses, schools, government agencies, and individuals for research and marketing projects that promote the state's pulse sector. Funding is intended for applied research studies and market development activities designed to address needs and opportunities for Montana’s pulse industry. Generally, to qualify for consideration, proposals must have a practical, near-term application involving practices or organizational arrangements that will stimulate and expand the pulse industry.

Eligible projects are as follows:

  • Developing the Pulse markets, including:
    • Conducting market assessments
    • Planning and conducting publicity and sales promotion campaigns, including media
    • Development and trade show exhibition.
    • Expanding International/Domestic markets
    • Overall market development of pulse crop industry
  • Education

Eligible costs under the Montana Pulse Crop Research & Marketing may include, but are not limited to:

  • Salaries and Wages
  • Fringe Benefits
  • Consultant Services (professional, technical, operational)
  • Travel
  • Advertising and Promotion
  • Equipment (preferably leased versus direct acquisition)
  • Supplies and Materials
  • Communication (telephone, postage, printing, etc.)
  • Data Processing

Proposals for funding will be accepted from:
• Public and Private Agencies and Organizations
• Business and Industry
• Educational Institutions
• State & Local Governments
• Individuals

If two or more individuals or organizations propose to conduct a project jointly, they should submit one application as co-applicants.

Applicants must demonstrate a proven ability to carry out all elements of the proposed project. In addition, applicants proposing to rely upon the expertise of another individual or organization to undertake any part of the project must clearly define the responsibilities of that party as well as provide evidence of their willingness and demonstrated ability to undertake that area of responsibility.

Ineligible
Program funds cannot be used for the payment of institutional overhead or unassociated indirect costs.

Pre-Application Information
Research Timelines:
- Deadline for Submission: December 5, 2023
- Joint Research Review Presentations: Week of February 19, 2024. Applicants will be asked to present a brief overview of the proposal. Presentations may be in-person or via video teleconference. The research review will be held in Moscow, ID.
- USADPLC budgeting process finalized: June 30, 2024
- FY 23-24 budgets approved by Board: July 1, 2024
- Award Notices: Mid-Late July 2024
- Contracts with USADPL and Institutions: August 2024
- Research and reporting activity: July 2023 to June 2024
- Publications and Final reports due: December 2025
